Dr. Kayla Solomon (she/her) is a trumpet performer, educator, and performing arts wellness advocate based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She recently completed a one-year appointment as Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the University of Saskatchewan (2024/25), where she taught applied trumpet, chamber music, and jazz ensembles, and remains an active member of the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra. Although now based in Winnipeg, Kayla maintains close ties with the musical community she built in Saskatoon and frequently travels across Canada to perform, teach, and present at festivals, clinics, and conferences.

In addition to her performing and teaching, Kayla is passionate about integrating health and wellness into music training. She researches overuse injuries in brass players, particularly embouchure strain, and advocates for physical and mental well-being in the performing arts. This focus led her to earn certification in the Essentials of Performing Arts Medicine through the Performing Arts Medicine Association. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges her musical expertise with athletic training and injury prevention strategies.
A committed educator, Kayla has taught students of all ages—from private lessons and ensemble coaching to academic courses in marketing and musicianship. She previously taught grade 6–12 band and math at Killarney School. Her teaching philosophy centers on developing well-rounded musicianship, healthy playing habits, and a sustainable approach to performance.
Kayla holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; a Master of Music degree from the University of California, Los Angeles; and a Bachelor of Music degree from Brandon University. She is currently teaching out of our Henderson location. Her rate is $30/half hour.
